RELSUDE Project Report: Bakala

RELSUDE Project Report: Conflict Analysis in Bakala

As part of the RELSUDE project, Concordis researched conflict dynamics and community perceptions in the Central African Republic. The aim of the project was to inform consortium partners and anchor them in the diverse realities of 11 targeted cities in the southeast of the country.

This report focuses on the town of Bakala, which has been controlled by various armed groups following the 2012 crisis. Government forces are currently in control, but armed groups remain active in around the city, especially around mining sites. The crisis has had a strong negative impact on the local economy, based on transhumance and mining, and has led to food shortages. Some inhabitants express optimism about the future but point to challenges, including the need for greater involvement of civil society and promotion of intercommunal dialogue.
