Hannah talks about being a Fundraising and Communications Intern

Transcript:

Hi my name's Hannah, and I’m a previous Fundraising and Communications intern.

What does your role entail?

As a Fundraising and Communications intern, there are various tasks that you do. You make sure there are regular social media posts and I worked very closely with the other Fundraising and Communications intern, to think ahead as to what campaigns we should back.

I also edited and created new content for the website and created infographics and edited videos as well.

What did you enjoy about your internship?

I really enjoyed learning about how an organization like Concordis operates.

I also really enjoyed working with not only the staff in London but also the teams in Mauritania, the Central African Republic, Sudan and South Sudan.

I not only appreciated the warm and supportive team but I also really appreciated the fact that if you were interested in other aspects of the work you could lend your hand to them. This enabled me to take part in data analysis and report writing for the Abyei project.

What was the most challenging thing?

I think one of the most challenging things was probably starting my internship remotely.

It meant that at the start I found it slightly trickier asking for help when I needed it, however after a couple of weeks I quickly realised that the team was always there for me when I needed help.

There was also a moment during my internship where I found it quite tricky knowing what needed prioritisation, however, this was quickly resolved as I had a chat with Emma who was really helpful, helping me understand what needed prioritisation.

What have you learnt from your internship?

I think what I’ve taken away from the internship is not only how to now prioritise tasks, but also about how rewarding and beneficial it can be to work in a tight-knit team, who are all incredibly passionate about the work that they are doing and also the wellbeing and experience of the interns.
