Abdellahi talks about our project in Mauritania

Abdellahi Boumediane, Mauritania's project manager, tells us why he started working for Concordis and what challenges may impact the work he is doing.

Transcript:

My name is Abdellahi Boumediane, I work for Concordis International.

We work in the south of Mauritania where communities were in conflict due to land disputes.

What made you want to work for Concordis?

I work for Concordis because I agree with their values; humility, impartiality and inclusivity.

Concordis’ methodology of using inclusive dialogue is also a good method to resolve community conflicts, particularly land conflicts.

Why is the work you do important?

Through inclusive dialogue we managed to stabilise the situation and transform the conflicts into community cooperation.

Communities who previously did not speak to one another now celebrate social events together; parties, baptisms…

They also pray together, their children attend the same schools and we are currently trying to promote economic interactions to consolidate this social cohesion.

What challenges could impact Concordis’ work?

Concordis faces immense challenges. Namely the obstacle of climate change as there is a recurring drought.

Additionally, there are ethnic and religious extremists who develop throughout all countries in the Sahel region.
