Eric and Barbara talk about life as Programme Interns

Eric and Barbara, both previous project interns, explain what interning at Concordis taught them.

Interning at Concordis transcript:

Eric:

My name is Eric and I am a project intern at Concordis International from Toronto, Canada.

Barbara:

Hi, I am Barbara, a former project intern at Concordis International.

What made you apply to intern?

Eric:

The reason I was motivated to apply for Concordis International was because of its mission, working towards the prevention of conflict so that lasting peace can
be created. This mission really resonated with my personal passion and my interest of wanting to get involved in the conflict resolution sector.

Barbara:

What really impressed me is Concordis’ approach to peacebuilding. In fact, Concordis supports local communities in finding their own solutions to achieve a peaceful
coexistence. And this is why Concordis’ work is truly effective, sustainable and ethical.

What did you enjoy during your internship?

Eric:

If there is one thing that I would have to emphasise about my experience at Concordis, it was the very positive work environment. I have never before worked in a place
where everyone is so friendly and willing to help out members of the team. In addition to this positive work environment, I found that the staff at Concordis to be some of the most passionate people I have ever met. It was clear very early on that everyone truly cared about what they were doing, and they really wanted to see a positive change in the world as a result of their work.

Barbara:

The thing I enjoyed The most during my internship was having the opportunity to work first-hand on project management and research tasks with an international team of passionate professionals willing to teach me everything that is needed in this sector.

What have you learnt from your internship?

If I had to highlight some things it would be the following: humility; accepting that you do not know everything and that you are willing to learn from others and from
your own mistakes. Moreover, I have obtained a greater understanding of how conflict resolution is done in practice, something I really wanted to achieve when wanting to apply to this internship.
