Concordis’ work is improving food security in CAR

Vakaga, the northern-most prefecture (district) of Central Africa Republic, borders the countries of Sudan and Chad. In 2011, Vakaga farmers decided to stop cultivating cassava, a staple food crop due to the regular destruction of their crops during conflict.

Instead, they chose to plant crops that need a shorter time to grow, such as maize.

It was recently reported to the head of the Concordis team in CAR, that thanks to training given by our fantastic Concordis team and the incredible efforts of the farmers, cassava is now being cultivated again in Vakaga.

This demonstrates that the farmers are feeling much more positive about the future, and they have some level of expectation that conflict will be resolved before it destroys their crops and livelihoods.
